New 2.5 VNT Diesel Engine for the Toyota Hilux

Toyotahiluxgalaus-620x350

The Hilux 2.5 D-4D (Raised Body) Raider Double Cab is the latest recipient of Toyota’s technologically advanced Variable Nozzle Turbo (VNT) diesel engine. Following the downsizing trend, this new powerplant - which comes courtesy of the Fortuner 2.5 - offers a lot more grunt, enhanced fuel economy and enhanced refinement, without having to hike up the engine capacity.

The performance stats are impressive: power shoots up from 75 kW to a substantial 106 kW, while torque rises substantially from 260 Nm to a monumental 343 Nm.

A lot of the credit for this must go to the variable nozzle turbo, which is a technological tour de force. The turbine blade, for example, is infinitely adjustable, allowing for the blade angles to be optimised depending on engine load. Another clever piece of tech comes into play when the exhaust gas pressure is still weak - the blades close, forcing the exhaust gas to flow in a narrower area. This in turn automatically increases the pressure that allows the compressor to work. At high rpm, the angle of the blades is fully open to avoid the kind of pressure that can damage a turbocharger. It’s also worth noting that the turbo is activated at very low rpm due to the fact that the blades are powered by an electric motor. The new engine is mated exclusively to a five-speed manual transmission.

In addition to the engine upgrade, all Raider models plus the Xtra Cab SRX are now offered with exterior mirrors that are electrically retractable. Manual headlamp levelling has also been added to the already extensive features’ list on all Hilux models.

The new Hilux Raider 2.5 D-4D (Raised Body) Raider Double Cab carries a price tag of R358 000 including VAT. This model comes with a standard 5- year / 90 000km service plan.

Toyota Leadership In Vehicle Quality And Reliability Confirmed By Germany TUV For Third Consecutive Year.

Toyotapriusvitechgal-620x350

Toyota is the most successful brand in the 2013 TÜV Report. In the latest edition of the report released today by Germany's leading technical inspection agency - TÜV, no less than 29 Toyota models were placed in the Top 50 most reliable cars across the various age categories, 20 Toyota models taking Top 10 positions and the Prius the number one spot in the category for vehicles aged four to five years.

Brussels, Belgium - Among the two to three years old vehicles category, Toyota vehicles dominated the field with 4 models among the top 10, the Avensis, the Prius, the Yaris and iQ.

The Toyota Prius showed the lowest defect rate of the category of four-to five-year old vehicles, closely followed by the Auris and Corolla in positions three and four.
Across older age categories, the Verso, and the RAV4 models also feature strongly in this year report.

Toyota has already been leading previous year’s reports from TÜV. This renewed excellent performance provides further evidence of the high reliability and long-term durability of Toyota vehicles.

First published four decades ago, the annual report by the TÜV has become a helpful guide to customers by showing long-term reliability and overall quality of vehicles available on the market today.

The majority of all mandatory technical inspections in Germany are carried out through the various bodies of the TÜV organisation. The 2013 TÜV Report is based on some 8.1 million vehicles inspected by the TÜV between July 2011 and June 2012.

Make sure you have some basic supplies in your car in case you do get stuck.

Car-emergency-kits-for-winter-with-snow-shovel

Invest in a substantial snowbrush and an ice scraper. It's good to have a shovel and a bag of sand to help with traction, and the aforementioned extra windshield washer fluid. A blanket is a good idea - just in case. If you have any winter clothes you don't wear anymore, especially an old pair of boots, throw them in the trunk, too.

The last item we always carry? Robert A. Caro's biography of Lyndon Johnson. It's 900 pages, so it's sure to keep us occupied until help arrives and beyond.

Toyota wins Kelly Blue Book's Best Resale Value Brand Award twice in a row!! Click here to read the full article.

Tri_county_toyota_logo

Toyota has earned Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com Best Resale Value Brand Award for the 2013 model year.  This is the second year in a row that Toyota has received the Best Resale Value Brand Award from KBB.com, and it has received this top honor in three of the last four years.

In achieving the award for the top brand, Toyota earned six Best Resale Value Awards for specific 2013 model year vehicle categories   In addition, four Toyota models (FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser, Tacoma and 4Runner) earned spots on KBB.com’s 2013 Best Resale Value: Top 10 Cars list.

“We are thrilled that KBB.com has selected Toyota for its Best Resale Value Brand award, and we appreciate Kelley Blue Book’s efforts to help increase consumer awareness as to the importance of resale value when purchasing a car“, said Bill Fay, Group Vice President and General Manager of Toyota division.

2013 KELLY BLUE BOOK BEST RESALE VALUE BY VEHICLE CATEGORY:

FULL-SIZE CAR: Toyota Avalon
MID-SIZE SUV/CROSSOVER:
FULL-SIZE SUV/CROSSOVER:
Toyota FJ Cruiser
Toyota Sequoia
MID-SIZE PICKUP TRUCK:
FULL-SIZE PICKUP TRUCK:
Toyota Tacoma
Toyota Tundra
MINIVAN/VAN: Toyota Sienna

Since vehicle depreciation (or loss of value) is typically a car buyer’s primary expense during ownership, these awards, like all of KBB.com’s new and used vehicle information, are designed to help consumers make more informed car-buying decisions.

Kelley Blue Book’s Best Resale Value Awards are based on projections from the Kelley Blue Book® Official Residual Value Guide, determined by a skilled staff of automotive analysts.  These prestigious awards honor vehicles expected to maintain the greatest proportion of their original Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) after five years of ownership.  Low-volume vehicles and vehicles with a MSRP of more than $60,000 are excluded from award consideration, except in the luxury and high-performance categories.

Click here to read this important article on how Toyota is helping those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Toyota-logo-2

Toyota today announced a $1 million contribution to the American Red Cross and other nonprofit organizations to support relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Sandy in the regions worst-hit by the storm. In addition, Toyota will match employee contributions to the American Red Cross and other non-profits doing relief and recovery work in affected communities.

Commenting on the donation, Shigeki Terashi, president and chief operating officer of Toyota Motor North America, Inc., said, “On behalf of Toyota, we express our sincere condolences to the families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Since we have operations and many dealerships in the affected regions, we felt a special responsibility to lend a hand. In addition to this contribution, many Toyota employees are already involved in volunteer activities to support those in need. We very much appreciate their support.”

Beginning Nov. 1, Toyota Financial Services (TFS) and Lexus Financial Services (LFS) will launch a “Customer Outreach” calling campaign to lease and retail customers who are delinquent, or become delinquent, due to circumstances related to the storm and who reside in the 13 states directly impacted by the hurricane (CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VA, VT and WV) and in the District of Columbia. This campaign will determine if these customers may be eligible to take advantage of payment relief options, some of which include:

• extensions and lease deferred payments;
• redirecting billing statements;
• and arranging phone or on-line payments.

Toyota Financial customers with questions about their account should call (800) 874-8822. Lexus Financial customers with questions about their account should call (800) 874-7050. Qualified residents residing in FEMA-designated areas (of the above-mentioned states and the District) needing to purchase a vehicle may also take advantage of a 90 Day Deferred First Payment Program designed to assist customers with their transportation needs as they work through the recovery process. This program is for a limited time and only available through participating Toyota and Lexus dealers and TFS/LFS.

Toyota Operations
Toyota continues to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy to its operations on the East Coast and reports no known injuries to associates, family members and dealer employees. The storm had the biggest impact on company operations and dealerships in the New Jersey area. Some regional/branch offices, as well as Toyota, Lexus and Scion dealerships, were affected by flooding and power outages. Toyota Logistics Services operations at the Port of Newark (N.J.) sustained water damage to its buildings and a number of vehicles.

Take a look at the 2013 "DUB" Avalon!

Sema-dub-avalon

DUB Magazine, a name synonymous with incredible wheels on cool custom cars with inner-city influence, has rendered its urban touch to the newest car in the Toyota lineup: the 2013 Avalon. In creating its latest ride, DUB has taken the new Avalon where few, if any, have gone before. The magazine's unique take on the Avalon makes its debut on Oct. 30 at the Toyota booth in the 2012 SEMA Show.

"DUB has proven here that the new Avalon makes a sharp urban ride," noted Toyota Engagement Marketing and Motorsports National Manager Keith Dahl. "Their modifications give it an aggressive, yet classy look that might have been unexpected in the previous generation."

DUB's signature look begins with big 22-inch TIS wheels with a matte black finish wrapped in ultra-low-profile Pirelli tires. The wheel/tire combo uses every millimeter of space in the wheel wells and combined with a lowered suspension, give the Avalon an audacious stance.

Taking the look a few steps further, DUB deployed a well-integrated custom lower body kit, re-sprayed the exterior in Brilliant Black and de-chromed the body. Tinted windows and
taillights continue the theme and a custom mesh grille notably changes the front view.

The interior gets plenty of attention, too, with liberally applied suede accents on the console, door panels and headliner. The seats receive plush diamond-pattern suede inserts, with DUB logos sewn into the seatbacks. And like the exterior, everything is black inside.

No urban ride would be complete without a pulsing sound system and the DUB Avalon delivers. JBL provides the hardware and DUB's designers used virtually all of the Avalon's generous trunk space to house three massive subwoofers and an impressive array of amplifiers. The clean installation belies the bone-shaking sound that surely awaits.

Starting Oct. 30, the DUB Avalon can be seen along with eight other new and unique custom-built Toyota vehicles at the 2012 SEMA Show. They will be in Central Hall at the Toyota display booth #24801.

We have included some tips to keep you safe after the storm. We hope you're all doing well!

Petsafe

  • Drive only if necessary and avoid flooded roads and washed out bridges. Stay off the streets. If you must go out watch for fallen objects; downed electrical wires; and weakened walls, bridges, roads, and sidewalks.
  • Keep away from loose or dangling power lines and report them immediately to the power company.
  • Walk carefully around the outside your home and check for loose power lines, gas leaks and structural damage before entering.
  • Stay out of any building if you smell gas, floodwaters remain around the building or your home was damaged by fire and the authorities have not declared it safe.
  • Inspect your home for damage. Take pictures of damage, both of the building and its contents, for insurance purposes. If you have any doubts about safety, have your residence inspected by a qualified building inspector or structural engineer before entering.
  • Use battery-powered flashlights in the dark. Do NOT use candles. Note: The flashlight should be turned on outside before entering - the battery may produce a spark that could ignite leaking gas, if present.
  • Watch your pets closely and keep them under your direct control. Watch out for wild animals, especially poisonous snakes. Use a stick to poke through debris.
  • Avoid drinking or preparing food with tap water until you are sure it’s not contaminated.

Do you think Busch's Camry has what it takes to win the Dream Build Challenge? Click here for all the details.

    Busch

Kyle Busch, whose 104 career wins across all three of its top series make him one of NASCAR’s top drivers, is now hoping to head to the winner’s circle in a different kind of race: the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge. Busch, one of four racing stand-outs pitted against each other in the vehicle-modification build competition, took on a 2012 Toyota Camry SE and remade it into the “Rowdy Edition” Camry, named for his “Rowdy” handle on the racing circuit. The Rowdy Edition Camry is all about style and substance.

“Our approach to the build [was] to make a car with the stance, attitude and handling of a road-race car while retaining the functionality of a production Camry,” Busch said.

The modifications were carried out at Detroit Speed & Engineering (DSE) in Mooresville, N.C., under Busch’s supervision.

Among the body modifications that the Camry received to realize the proper “Rowdy” image were a hand-formed, custom wide-body kit; custom front and rear belly pans; DSE-designed and fabricated front air splitter and rear air diffuser; and a custom, true dual exhaust system.

“This looks like something we should run at Daytona and Talladega,” Busch said.

Since the official “Rowdy” colors are black, red, and white, they are predominant on both the exterior and inside, where black and red leather Lexus IS F bucket seats were installed to complete the look.

The "Rowdy Edition" Camry will premiere, along with its competitors in the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge, at Toyota's press conference at the Special Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas on Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. local time.

NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer produced a Tekked-Out Prius, NHRA Funny Car driver Alexis DeJoria converted a Tundra pickup truck into a beastly desert pre-runner, and NHRA Top Fuel points leader Antron Brown modified a Sequoia for maximum speed. All four are competing for the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge title and a $50,000 check from Toyota to the driver’s chosen charity. A win by Busch will benefit the Kyle Busch Foundation, whose mission is to empower young men and women by fostering life experiences and helping them achieve their goals.

Voting will open on Oct. 20 and will continue through Oct. 29. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite team once per day on the Toyota Racing Facebook page, where they can also enter to win prizes, including a Toyota Racing “Dream Trip,” which will be given away to one lucky fan.

Don’t try to carry too much

Never exceed your car’s roof load specifications or weight limits. You can find them in your vehicle owner’s manual. Check the weight limitation of your roof rack as well. Typically the range is from 150 to 200 pounds (68 to 90 kg). That’s the equivalent of eighteen 8-foot 2 x 4s (2.4-meter 38 x 89s) or three sheets of 3/4-inch (17-mm) plywood. If you have to deliver a heavy load from the home or garden center, consider having it delivered. It will save wear and tear on you as well as your car.

Read this great article on how Toyota is standing up against bullies.

    Spirit_day_300x250

Toyota Financial Services (TFS) and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) have teamed up to take a stand against bullying, joining hundreds of celebrities, media outlets, corporations, and organizations in doing the same. Together, the two entities launched the “Go Purple for #SpiritDay” app, available for both iPhone and Android smartphones. The TFS powered app provides users with anti-bullying resources, calls to action, and a tool that can turn photos purple. These purple photos can then be shared to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to show one’s support for and participation in the upcoming Spirit Day on Oct. 19.

Millions of Americans will “turn purple” for Spirit Day, raising awareness of the dangers of bullying, and showing support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth.

“Everyone at Toyota Financial Services, and across the Toyota family, is proud and excited to be a part of this year’s Spirit Day,” said Ann Bybee, TFS vice president, corporate strategy, communications & community relations. “Going purple for the day is a small but powerful way we can all show our support for those who have been bullied or who fear being bullied. It is so important to raise awareness that bullying isn’t acceptable. At Toyota, we have always embraced a guiding principle of ‘respect for people,’ which has made us the company we are today. And it is a principle that includes not only our employees and customers, but everyone, without exception.”

TFS is certainly in good company. The iconic New York Stock Exchange will light up in purple for Spirit Day, as will the LAX Pylon Lights and the JFK traffic tower. MTV Networks and Logo will turn their on-air logos purple. American Apparel will feature purple clothing items on its website. The National Basketball Association (NBA), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), and many supportive celebrities, such as blogger Perez Hilton, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, TV icon George Takei, and talk show host Wendy Williams, will join the ranks of past Spirit Day participants Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Tyra Banks, Ricky Martin, Cher, and Julianne Moore. And the list goes on; corporations including AMC Entertainment, AT&T, CNBC, Delta Air Lines, Facebook, Hewlett-Packard, McGraw-Hill, Omnicom, Warner Bros., and Yahoo! will all participate by encouraging their employees to wear purple, turning their logo purple, and/or participating through social media.

“By going purple for Spirit Day, millions of Americans are helping to send a clear message that no one should be bullied simply because of who they are,” said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick.

Read this great tip on changing your oil!

    Oilchange
    Oil Change Timing
Oil changes every 3,000 miles used to be required jobs, just like cleaning the accumulated fuzz from record player needles or defrosting freezers. Today, advances in engine design and lubricants make oil changes something to be done when the schedule calls for it, not when granddad says it's time. Some cars call for 5,000-mile change intervals, some up to 15,000-mile stints. Others have a variable timer. Follow the schedule and use the oil called for by the manufacturer.

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) is to display eight specially equipped vehicles and two of its healthcare and nursing-support robots at the International Home Care and Rehabilitation Show (H.C.R.) tradeshow, to be held at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center (Tokyo Big Sight) in Koto Ward, Tokyo from September 26 through 28.  The H.C.R. event is the largest of its kind in Japan.
In response to the aging of Japan's population, TMC has been developing and marketing vehicles specially equipped to meet the diverse needs of senior citizens and others who might require extra care or support.  At the H.C.R. event, TMC will display such vehicles and highlight the company's approach to vehicle development.
TMC will exhibit eight Welcab-series vehicles with factory-installed features for the disabled and the elderly, including the new "Porte" Lift-up Front Passenger Seat model launched in Japan in July, the new "Spade" Side-access model that can easily bring a person in a detachable passenger seat or wheelchair directly into the front passenger area, and wheelchair-adapted vehicles that allow vehicle ingress and egress for people seated in wheelchairs.
TMC will also exhibit the improved "Walk Training Assist" robot and "Patient Transfer Assist" robot, two of the Partner Robots that TMC announced in November 2011.  These robots are currently being developed to provide support in the realms of nursing and medical treatment and to provide freedom of movement to all people.

Run the air-conditioning while defrosting the windshield. (New cars do this automatically, but in older cars, turn it on yourself.) AC air is dry, so it will take the moisture out of the air by dehumidifying as it cools. If you're cold, adjust the temperature so that the AC pumps out warm air.
